WHY.........??????????..........is domestic violence termed a "women's issue when the vast majority of abusers and their defenders are men?
Why are victims and those with the least resources designated to change it?
In this must read for all, I attempt to raise awareness and give insight to the people who think that domestic violence prevention is just a matter of the victim leaving the house, and that women have reached equality.
My e-book is currently available only at Lulu.com. Click here.
I became a national advocate following the brutal murder of my daughter Lisa by Lisa's ex-husband while out on a pass from prison where Lisa had finally managed to send him.
My research, coupled with a 20 year involvement with the criminal, victim and the legal system and those charged with dealing with the fallout as well as my 20 years as an advocate gave me an extraordinary awareness and overview from the historical, gender, sociological and political aspects.
I became an advocate while single-handedly raising Lisa's daughters.
As a non-partisan, unpaid advocate, my work involved public speaking, addressing national conferences, actively promoting legislation and appearances on numerous documentary programs such as 20/20, 48 Hours, the Justice Files and on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
For my work in raising awareness and helping others, I was awarded the pen used by former President Bush in signing Domestic Violence Bill S.838
Many of the problems are evident to the public, many are not. It's the big picture.
I was given the honor of speaking in Washington this past April and given the official title of "Mother of Victim Notification."
I returned from Washington in October after filming victim notification media for The National Criminal Justice Association.
In the bonus section of my book titled "Who Killed Lana B?", I relate some of the pitfalls of guardianship in a male dominated system, and how taking the advice of "experts" and consistently taking the high road may not be the best route.
This is not a male bashing book and not a "for women only" read.
For those who don't want to order over the internet, call or visit your local Barnes and Noble Bookstore and they will get it for you. Several Barnes and Noble shoppers have informed me that they have it categorized under "Text Books". I have changed my ebook version under the headings "Sex and relationships", which is what it is, no? , in this case the term sex can mean either the act or male or female gender.
The book is currently available at Lulu.com and amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com and is globally distributed. I've recently been notified by a potential buyer that the link did not work. Please go to Amazon.com and search bu author Millie Bianco or Title.
The book is a gift of Lisa's and my pain so that others may learn.
